It is possible to hook up a new car stereo with an original stereo with dvd player?

I have a mazda tribute 2004 and it has the original stereo still in with the dvd player in the back seat. the dvd player is hooked up to it because you can turn the radio station and it will play the dvd sound. I was wondering if you can hook up the dvd cord to most stereos like pioneer or alpine.

If you remove the original Mazda stereo you will lose power to the DVD player
