1) Learn the intro or cool part of 20 favorite songs
2) Use too much distortion or always turn knobs up to 10
3) Play songs out of pace
4) Only focus on playing fast metal licks and never venture out of that
5) Learn "Purple Haze" and think that's the baddest most difficult song there is.
6) Think Gibson Les Pauls are the best because they're the most expensive.
7) Always use the bridge pickup.
8) Become more focused on what type of guitar they think is coolest instead of improving their skills and finding the right tone (a good guitarist and right amp tone will make a $100 guitar sound good - done it)
