Do you believe in the "2012 End of the World Prophecy"?

Just curious. A friend of mine and I were discussing this last night, and I just wanted to see how many people believe that this will come to pass, and how many believe it will not.
I don't necessarily believe this at all, but my friend has something interesting information. It's not just the mayan civilization that predicted this.

I don't know, it's just an intriguing topic. Where the eff is Dan Brown when you need him?
I don't know, aliens or humanoid beings sucking the mayans up into thin air before telling them that a cosmic boom is going to kill off the human race seems plausible to me....

If you have ever been to the Georgia guidestones you will know there is a prohpecy that the world will end on 22nd Dec 2012.
The last issue of WIRED had a great article on them and the background.
It is unusual for predictions to be so precise, which make them less than plausible. Any saect that warns against such things which then don't happen can claim to have saved the world....
And it is the probable release date of windows 8, so it may well come true...

The Bible clearly states that no man knows the timing and plans of God..

But look at it this way. The world ends for a person when they die. So the world is ending for many people as I write these words. 2012 will be the end of the world for a lot of people. Personally 2012 would be fine for me. I am 72 and I would like to see 2012. The key to then or now, is to be ready. If your heart belongs to Jesus, then whenever the end comes for you, you are ready.

The only downside as I see it, is that we only have a little time left to tell others about Jesus. We need to use more of our time being witnesses and less time being judges.

No, Revelation (in the Bible) says what it's going to be like and when. Even if you don't believe that stuff, there's scientific PROOF that the world wont end then.

Sheesh. The prophecy -- which is basically just the end of the Mayan calendar -- doesn't even PREDICT that the world will end. It only predicts a major world change... which people have taken to mean *boom* no more Earth!

I believe that a bunch of people have pulled this date out of thin air and have made a prophesy out of it.

I do not believe it has any other significance, just like Y2K didnt.

No
That is only 3.5 years away and there is too much to do before the end that has not happened and cannot happen in that short of time frame. The fact that man said it was the end is the biggest reason to disbelieve it. No man knows the time of His coming.

None of us can say this prophecy is not true until 2012 comes. Even if you believe in the bible, the bible does not give a specific time. It would be totally unreasonable to believe in a prophecy that gives a time like 2012.

I seriously need a final hug before we all die!! Wow...I do dread 2012....but why 2012???

Of course not.

Some nonsensical superstitious prophecy from an ancient civilization thousands of years ago has no bearing whatsoever for me to believe in.

What we believe tends to become true, as we focus on it...so...no...I'm not buying what they're selling..
