How can I argue the idea that suicide ISN'T giving up and being a failure?

We had a discussion about this in class, and a majority of people felt that suicide is giving up on life and "a permanent solution to a temporary situation". I don't agree with this at all, but how would i argue it. I just feel like for someone to take their own life, they must be feeling things in a completely different stage.

I have my own personal feelings about suicide, but, it should be thought about on a *individual* bases.... Each person that has gone down the *suicide* road had their own reasons, pain, suffering, etc... and YES, I believe some of them took the *cowards* way out....

Several of my husbands *kin* have gone down that road.... All for different reasons....

There is no argument for or against suicide.... It is a VERY personal choice people make... They either choose to live and change or to die and end it..... and for some, to live is just NOT an option..... Sad but just the way it is.......

You can't really argue it...anybody who thinks that suicide is cowardly obviously won't change their mind until they experience feelings of it for themselves. Just try to remember that these people are idiots and should be avoided.

It is giving up and more so giving into Satan, Satans goal is to kill, steal, and destroy. When someone commits suicide they are taking a life that they have no business taking, its a form of murder. Not only that but against Gods will, think about the people it hurts. Its a selfish way of doing things and God doesn't support that.

I will say I don't judge people who commit suicide because I don't wunna judge everyone and say whos going to hell and who isn't. I won't start something I don't wunna finish sorta speak lol

I do agree that it's a very permanent solution to what are often temporary problems, but we can't judge those who are driven to suicide. We obviously can't understand grief or self-loathing terrible enough to cause that kind of tragedy, and we don't know if such people are fully capable of understanding what they're doing. They may not be in their right minds and so aren't responsible or accountable. Only God can know if they are, and judgment needs to be left to Him.

It'd be like "giving up" after being drafted. Sure it's quitting, but it's quitting something that the individual never chose to begin. It's saying "thanks for the offer, but I'd rather not (live)". Life may have outlasted it usefulness. Everyone should have the right to do what they want with their own body.
I know- thumbs down, but respond to me with a reasonable argument if you want to change my mind.

In life everything is temporary. And if you don't like something, go make efforts to change it. Suicide shouldn't be an answer to a problem.

Unless their suicide is to make a point to the society or government, suicide IS an act of desperation, loneliness and give up of living, hence being a failure.

We come from God and to God we return. God gave us all life, so how could you return to Him and reply why you purposely destroyed his gift and killed yourself if He asked you? Christianity and Judaism and Islam hold that suicide is forbidden and in England up until the 1960's it was a crime also and those who made failed suicide attempts would go to jail. As Secularism crept more and more in law, the law was abrogated and now the law is almost entirely Secular in nature. Suicide is not an option if you believe in God. It is like being ungrateful and if anyone was to talk about it, I would do my best to convince them otherwise, ragardless of whether they believe in God or not as in my religion to save one life is like saving all lives of mankind.
