Would it be worth it to buy a smartphone with a pay as you go plan thing?

I wouldnt really need a data plan. Im pretty sure I could just connect off wi-fi.
the pay as you go plan here doesnt have a contract, unlimited texting, and the only thing that charges you is calling.
my dad wont let me get an actual contract plan, idk why. i make probably 300 dollars a month from paper routes and babysitting. i could handle the plan but oh well.
would it be worth it or no?

I am very pleased with my Amdroid phone and service from walmart straight talk. It is half the price I was paying with verizpn and I have had no aervice issues at all. I can even pay over the phone with a debit card. If u don't want data you can get talk and text for 35 dollars and with data 45. Version was about 100 after all the fees were added. O
