Would a 1080p video look better than a 720p video on a 480x800 screen? ( Samsung

Galaxy S II )? I Just got a Samsung Galaxy S II and I want to download videos of any kind to show my friends the power of the Super AMOLED plus screen (480x800). So I wonder If I should download these videos in 1080p instead of 720p, am I right? would 1080p be better than 720p when playing any of these videos on my SII, or will I just spend memory for no reason (if choosing 1080p) since I wont be able to see any difference in detail or color accuracy, etc?

it's obviously better than 720p but if you are really concerned about memory and don't see really any difference between those two.. i rather would use 720p

Congratulations on your choice in phones, I think you will come to love the SAMOLED screen, expecially if you use your phone at night a lot.

Technically, either video is going to appear about the same, since both exceed the screen resolution of the phone:

Phone: 800x480
HD720: 1280x720
HD1080: 1920x1080

If absolute quality is your concern, it is going to come down to how well the phone decodes and resizes the videos, and this is often impacted by the initial coding of the video, so you will find that some 720 look better than 1080, and vice-versa.

But it is a phone, not a high-end home movie theater, so don't worry about minute differences and save your SD card space for more videos, games, and apps by downloading 720, or even lower resolution content that is closer to the phone's native resolution.
