Will my cat teach a kitten that isn't hers to hunt?

I live in the country and the only reason I have cats is for them to keep the mice away. The female is a great hunter, but the male is worthless. The only reason I keep him is to keep her company as I am not the type to give her much affection. If I were to get rid of the male and get a young kitten would she learn to hunt from the female or is it a trait they are born with. I don't want to have another worthless cat. I hope I don't upset pet owners by calling this cat worthless, I just think that if I am going to feed him, take him to the vet, and otherwise provide for him he needs to contribute. I don't need an animal for companionship.
