will a motorola droid bionic work on a 3g network?

I was considering buying a motorola droid Bionic from amazon, but I don't want to pay for a 4g plan if I don't have to. I googled the same question, but it did not come up with any direct answer. So if I buy just the phone, will it connect to a 3g network instead of a 4g network?

Yes. But I'm not sure you can choose to opt out of paying for 4g. Some areas don't have 4g. But you pay for the same plan.
