Before the relationship started he was drunk almost every weekend, or just whenever he got the chance. His closest friends know that he is not happy and are concerned, but when some of his other friends ask him why he is unhappy he denies it, most of the time I think he just smiles to them and pretend to be happy in front of them, but it doesn't convince his friends. If he just started this relationship shouldn't he be happy? Its like nobody could try to talk to him and get answers out of him.
