Why doesn't my Cincinnati Bell phone get 4G outside of Cincy?

I have an HTC Panache 4G that gets 4G in Cincinnati and in Dayton. I have been to other big cities recently like Harrisburg PA, Columbus OH, St. Louis MO, Tampa FL, Atlanta GA, and Indianapolis IN and my phone only ever registers a 3G signal in the notifications bar. Cincinnati Bell's website says all these cities have 4G, so why does my phone never say 4G in the notification bar when I am in other big cities?

4G is a connection type. if you are out of the zone, then no signal because Bell is not operating there. Each cell provider operates within a certain radius due to the availability of cell towers. if you are outside their range, then tough luck. this is why you usually want to go for a cell phone provider that has the largest coverage.
