Why do so many Christians turn a prayer into a sermon when Jesus said to

keep prayers short? "And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him." Matthew 6:7-8
There seem to be an awful lot of Christians that turn a prayer into a 5-10 minute sermon. Why can't they just sum everything up in a single sentence instead? After all, God knows what they want before they pray.

Jehovah's Witnesses do precisely that. Their prayers go on and on and on and on....God may well be the Almighty, however, even the Almighty gets bored.

Basically, what Jesus is saying is, Get to the POINT!.

Public prayer should be no longer than 2 minutes, otherwise some folks will be bored stiff. Save long prayers for private prayer.
