...composed of black sediments. What infer? They were derived from the igneous rocks from which the islands were formed.
You determine that the sediments were deposited by wind.
You conclude that metamorphism has taken place.
You note that cementation and compaction are taking place.
The sediments formed deep within Earth.
 
I would infer the first point, as eroded basalt (and there is a lot of basalt in Hawaii) would certainly produce black sand. Beach sediments might be shaped by the wind, but they're seldom deposited by it. Metamorphism is indeterminate from looking at sand in that context. Cementation and compaction would be the case if you were looking at black sandstone. And sediments aren't formed deep in the Earth.
