Will the computer experts make all of the important advancements in the future?

Or will it be in traditional chemistry and physics labs?

All physics and math people at my school are required to take 2 semesters in programming.
In terms of employment, you cannot go wrong with technology.
People in other fields like chemistry and physics have to be really talented if they want to go up the pay scale. This typically means being the head researcher with a doctoral degree.
