Which of these novel beginnings would grab you the most

1. The night of a girl's death

2. A boy moving into the house of the murdered girl which turns out to be haunted

3. Foreshadow to the climax in which the boy confronts the person who killed the girl

1. IMO mediocre, but can still be used effectively if written well.

2. Typical Gothic (perhaps with a romantic element) or horror setup. If you can pull it off go for it.

3. I like foreshadowing when done properly. A popular way to gain interest with the reader.

Number one: The night of a girl''s death. It makes me question how exactly it came about. It's gained my interest and I want to know more about why it happened. I would continue reading it to find out.

Number two: Not so powerful. It sounds more cliché and, excuse me, corny.

Number three: Also not as powerful for the beginning. Sounds more like it should be in the middle of the novel.

Hope this helps.
