which is better,a Mercedes Benz W126 diesel or gas engine? what are the

pros and cons of the two? thanks!? i'm trying to find a mercedes benz w126 that appeared in the 80's, and it's hard to find one that is in diesel version with manual transmission. most of the cars for sale are in gas engine with automatic transmission. how far are their difference in terms of reliability and economy?thanks!

I had Mercedes w126 for years... I had the w126 280se gas, also the 420sel, 380sel, and the 300se...

So far i can tell u, the best car that i had and was the best performance was the 1991 300se. it wont ever brake down, nor will give u problems and its maintenance is cheap and its cool on gas...

On the diesel side, i never tried any, but as i know its hard to find any of those in manual. the w126 up to 85 are turbo 5 cylinder, but as i know the diesel that came on those cars after 86 which came in Straight 6 cylinder turbo was stronger, faster and smoother, but it will give u more troubles as a mechanic told me one day.
