The owners manuel unfortunately is for a diesel engine which my car doesn't have. Kragens wasn't sure and neither were the mechanics at a shop next door. The level is extremely low. Possibilities given were brake or suspension fluid. It has a small well towards the back marked brake fluid and a large plastic container located in the front marked hydraulic fluid.
