My teacher assigned this question for homework. I re-read the chapter twice, and maybe I'm just misunderstanding this question, but I really couldn't find anything on this in my book or online. Anyone have a grasp on what he is asking? Or what some of this long-term trends were? I usually never go on Yahoo for homework questions, but it's almost midnight and I'm stuck.

Thanks to anybody with information!

Reagan (et. al.) made "conservatism" and "patriotism" acceptable after decades of liberal policies embraced by both Republican and Democrat politicians of the past. ... He started a movement which, although stymied many times by old-line liberals and R.I.N.O Republicans, has manifested itself in such grass-roots organizations as the Tea Parties and a new generation of Republican and Libertarian political leaders.
