What is the most miles I should accept on used 00-02 VW Golf?

Im about to invest $2900-$3500 USD on a used car. I'm going to buy a used Volkswagen Golf (4 Door) and there are quite a few on cragislist ranging from 106,000-147,000 miles. I've never purchased a VW before but I did research and saw that parts are not as expensive as I've been told, so Im going to go ahead and buy one. My question is what is the MAXIMUM mileage on a VW golf that I should accept? Im looking to have the golf for 100,000(short term) or atleast 4 more years (long term) and I do plan to replace certain things on the car when I do buy it. Here are a few examples of what I am looking at. Please provide an opinion. Volkswagen golf owners are a plus.
Sidenote: I am buying the car MANUAL TRANS ONLY.
