What are the tobacco regulations for KLM airlines?

I will be flying from the US to the UK via KLM airlines. I will be visiting England and I've heard that cigarettes there run about $12 dollars a pack (outrageous if you ask me), so I was wondering if I would be allowed to bring a carton of cigarettes to avoid the tobacco expenses overseas. If anyone has any experience with this airline or anything of the sort any help would be greatly appreciated.

Note that you can't usually smoke anywhere in a public building in the UK, you have to do it in the street.
