Ben Roethlisberger’s injury and a look around the rest of the league in Week 6 (Getty Images) Despite returning for the second half Sunday, an MRI has revealed a torn meniscus for Ben Roethlisberger that will require surgery, giving him an unclear timetable for his return. There’s hope he can be back as soon as Week 9 after Pittsburgh’s bye, although that’s hardly a guarantee. As long as he’s out, it’s obviously bad news for Antonio Brown, Le’Veon Bell and Sammie Coates. Bell and Brown will remain must starts, but their upside takes a major hit with Landry Jones taking over at QB. Coates can be safely benched, especially while dealing with an injury of his own…In a day filled with unexpected contributors, none was more surprising than Jay Ajayi running for 200+ yards and two scores against the Steelers during Arian Foster’s return…Darrius Heyward-Bey has some serious speed…The Steelers home/road splits are a real thing, just ask those who took them in Survivor this week.
So much for T.J. Yeldon taking control of Jacksonville’s backfield. Chris Ivory is the preferred RB to own, if for no other reason than he’s their goal-line guy…Brian Hoyer has thrown for more than 300 yards during all four of his starts with zero interceptions…Jordan Howard owners can’t love seeing Ka’Deem Carey steal so many snaps…Cameron Meredith saw 15 more targets and is the real deal. He should be treated as a top-25 fantasy WR moving forward.
Nice of Golden Tate to finally break out when he was on the vast majority of fantasy owners’ benches (if not already dropped). It was his first 100-yard effort in his last 30 games…The Lions backfield is a situation to avoid altogether…Todd Gurley remains a major concern considering expectations, but it was at least nice to see another four catches and 39 receiving yards even after Benny Cunningham returned…Kenny Britt is quietly on pace to finish with 1,312 receiving yards…Case Keenum has gotten 9.2 YPA over his last three games.
The Browns entered allowing easily the most fantasy points to opposing tight ends, so naturally, Delanie Walker recorded one catch for 21 yards…After totaling*four touchdowns over the first four games, Marcus Mariota has seven scores over his last two contests, helped by this sick Kendall Wright catch…Terrelle Pryor is legit and is an easy WR2 moving forward even if he doesn’t see any snaps at QB.

Even during a game in which they looked bad for long stretches, the Patriots won 35-17 against a perennial playoff team. Tom Brady is going to finish top-three in MVP voting despite missing the first quarter of the season…Rob Gronkowski is officially back…Jeremy Hill owners are likely fed up, but he does get Cleveland and Washington at home over the next two weeks…I’m beginning to think Vontaze Burfict is a dirty player.
The Saints scored 41 points, yet Mark Ingram totaled 60 yards without a score. He even lost a goal-line TD run to Coby Fleener, just for good measure…Jonathan Stewart, meanwhile, had two short touchdown runs, which could be big news for his fantasy value if it’s a sign the team plans on limiting Cam Newton runs in that area (he did have a rushing score in this game as well)…The Panthers entered last year’s Super Bowl with a 17-1 record. They’ve since gone 1-6…Brandin Cooks may not be the most consistent receiver, but he sure is explosive…Any game in which Drew Brees is at home I’ll be ranking him as my QB1 that week moving forward, regardless of opponent.
Odell Beckham had 222 yards and two touchdowns, and afterward Tony Dungy said “if he wants to start helping the Giants win, he needs to stop with the penalties.” What a world we live in…All six of the Ravens’ games this year have been decided by six points or fewer…Over the last four games, Joe Flacco has attempted 186 passes, resulting in two touchdowns.
A game script that saw his defense score twice certainly didn’t help, but Carson Wentz disappointed fantasy owners completing just 11 passes with no scores…Jordan Matthews hasn’t eclipsed 75 yards since Week 1 and has totaled just 14 targets over the past three games…Where did that come from, Matt Jones?
LeSean McCoy once again impressed, rushing for 140 yards and three scores against the coach who once traded him. McCoy suffered what looked like a potential serious injury but later returned and was fine. The Bills are 4-0 and have averaged 211 rushing yards since firing OC Greg Roman…Make sure Mike Gillislee isn’t available in your league. He’d be an RB1 if McCoy were to go down…Colin Kaepernick was hit-and-miss. His return to action is bad news for Jeremy Kerley and gives slight hope to Torrey Smith’s value.

Andy Reid is now 16-2 coming off a bye…The Raiders entered allowing the most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks, but a terrific rushing attack and a strong defensive effort didn’t result in the game many expected from Alex Smith (or Jeremy Maclin or Travis Kelce or Chris Conley). Smith even had what looked like a TD pass to defensive tackle Dontari Poe ultimately ruled a rush…The Raiders have been outgained in yards per play every game this season…Jamaal Charles looked good enough, but this is going to remain a full-blown backfield by committee in Kansas City, with Spencer Ware the favorite for goal-line carries. Not losing a fumble for the first time since Week 1, Ware looked terrific, and the Chiefs get the Saints and Colts up next.
Matt Ryan threw for 220 yards and three touchdowns in the third quarter alone and continues to look like the league MVP. He still produced in less than ideal weather conditions against a Seattle defense that entered allowing by far the fewest fantasy points to opposing QBs. He also tied the NFL record with his 45th straight game with at least 200 passing yards…It doesn’t seem like Russell Wilson is close to 100 percent healthy…Christine Michael is a top-10 fantasy asset…The Falcons lost, but that play at the end easily could’ve been ruled pass interference, and they were highly competitive playing on the road for the fourth time in five games in the league’s toughest environment versus a Seahawks team coming off their bye. Atlanta is absolutely legit.

Aaron Rodgers missed some open throws, threw a bad pick and lost a fumble inside the 10-yard line while having all day to throw for most of the game. His late TD pass with the outcome already decided was his first touchdown toss in the second half of a game all season, and his last 300-yard game was Week 9 last year. I have no explanation, but Rodgers’ current level of play can no longer be chalked up as simply a slump…Dak Prescott was intercepted for the first time in his career and also lost a fumble, but he otherwise played well in a tough environment, getting 9.1 YPA and winning for the fifth straight game. This certainly seems like his job even when Tony Romo is healthy.

What a comeback by the Texans, who trailed 23-9 with less than three minutes left. Brock Osweiler still looks brutal though, really hurting DeAndre Hopkins’ fantasy value…Frank Gore became the first Colts back to rush for 100 yards in the team’s last 56 games. He would then lose a few yards but later once again went over the century mark in overtime…Lamar Miller had a monstrous game, totaling 178 yards and scoring his first two touchdowns on the year, including this terrific play.*I still really worry about this offense, so I’d be looking to sell after the big game in primetime.
