VW PASSAT 2006 ignition sucked the key in and won't give it back!?

Okay, my husband left the high-beams on his Passat on for a week straight, because we only use the car once a week.. Needless to say, the battery died. Well, we didn't realize that we left them on, and he stuck his key in, and the car will not let go of it. We tried jump-starting the car, but the alarm keeps going off, and the ignition still would not release the key, and the car wouldn't turn over. SO.. Since we knew the battery in it was shot to heck, I helped him change it. So, the battery has been changed, and we still have the same issue, the car will not start up, or turn over, the alarm goes off. Two of our neighbors have passats as well, and can't figure out the problem either. We tried removing the fuse to the alarm system, but couldn't find the right one according to the manual, so that didn't work. The neighbors tried everything, so last resort before we have it towed is yahoo answers...

Can anyone help, and if so how? PLEASE, any suggestions would help, thanks!
