Jones, the big Pirates first baseman, did something on Sunday no Pirate had done before. He smashed a 463-foot home run into Allegheny River, which runs behind Pittsburgh's PNC Park. He's the second hitter to ever launch a ball that landed in the river on the fly. The first came in 2002, when Daryle Ward of the visiting Houston Astros did it.
That 463-foot measurement makes Jones' the 10th longest of the season, but after the game, he was happier about what his splasher did for the Pirates on Sunday. It tied their game with the Cincinnati Reds in the eighth inning. Teammate Travis Snider gave the Pirates the 5-4 win in the 11th inning with a walk-off single.
Patrick Corbin now a league-leading 9-0 for the D-backs: Patrick Corbin, who probably never heard of before this season, became baseball's first nine-game winner Sunday, guiding the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 8-4 win over the Chicago Cubs.
Corbin — a 23-year-old who was 6-8 last year for Arizona — didn't have his best start of the season Sunday. He gave up four runs in six innings, raising his ERA from a 1.71 to 2.06. Still, the Diamondbacks offense gave him enough. In fact, the D-backs are 11-0 this season when Corbin starts. His two no-decisions were blown by the bullpen.

Rangers 3, Royals 1: Hot shot Rangers rookie Jurickson Profar hits a two-run difference-making home run in the eighth. Yu Darvish gets a no-decision but strikes out six in seven innings.
Marlins 11, Mets 6: The Marlins complete a three-game sweep of Matt Harvey and the Mets. It comes in the same week the Mets sweep the Yankees. By rules of baseball transference, this means Jeffrey Loria now owns A-Rod.
Astros 5, Angels 4: Not to be outdone by the Marlins, the Astros win their third in a row against the Angels (they play again Monday, as the Astros go for the sweep). The Astros have now won five in a row, or as they call that in Houston "one-fourth of our season total."
Rockies 7, Dodgers 2: Just to let you know that you haven't entered bizarro baseball world, the Rockies did what they were supposed to do and beat the Dodgers. Dexter Fowler hits two home runs.
Blue Jays 7, Padres 4: Second only to "Game of Thrones" in Sunday night final-moment excitement (no spoilers from us), the Blue Jays get an 11th inning home run from Mark DeRosa and a couple insurance runs to top the Padres. Thrills for days.
Braves 6, Nationals 3: The oddities keep on coming: B.J. Upton hits a home run as the Braves beat the Nats again. Not Justin. B.J.
Orioles 4, Tigers 2: Donuts for everybody! Rookie Kevin Gausman — who has sadly abandoned his donut fetish — looks strong for the Orioles, as Chris Davis bashes home run No. 20. You can eat a donut, though, it's cool.
Rays 11, Indians 3: Everything goes the Rays' way, including an assist from a ball boy on a Sam Fuld triple.
Phillies 7, Brewers 5: Phew! Domonic Brown wasn't just good in May. On the second day of June, he hits another homer, a triple and knocks in four runs. Can't you tell? I just picked him up in fantasy baseball.
Twins 10, Mariners 0: For the Mariners, Jeremy Bonderman made his first major league start since 2010. Let's just say he's not keeping this game saved on his DVR.
Giants 4, Cardinals 2: That lauded Giants starting pitching gets the team one win for before it leaves St. Louis. Oh, what's that you say? The Giants started a reliever, Chad Gaudin, and he hadn't started in three years? All right then. Nevermind.
A's 2, White Sox 0: Jarrod Parker, who started the season 0-3 with an 8.10 ERA, outduels Chris Sale. Parker earns his fourth win of the season and lowers his ERA to 5.40.
Red Sox 3, Yankees 0: Clay Buchholz improves to 8-0 in a rain-shortened, six-inning game. The most excitement, though, came in the dugouts.
From college baseball: Florida State's Luke Weaver celebrates after the Seminoles beat Troy to advance to the Super Regionals of the NCAA Tournament. He's also, perhaps, doing an ollie on an invisible skateboard.
• Matt Harvey allowed 10 hits to the Marlins, the most he's allowed to any team this season. His five-inning outing was also his shortest of the season. He gave up four earned runs, but eventually got a no-decision.
• With another six Ks in seven innings Sunday, Yu Darvish continued his historic strikeout pace. According to ESPN, his 34.8% strikeout rate (that's 111 strikeouts in 318 batters) is the third best all-time.
• The Dodgers called up stud prospect Yasiel Puig to help an outfield that's reeling with injuries to Matt Kemp and Carl Crawford. Puig, he of the .517 spring training batting average, had Dodgers fans foaming at the mouth before the season. He's expected to be in uniform Monday.

''It was a swing of anger,'' Jones said. ''I haven't been getting many big hits lately and I put everything I had into that swing. It felt pretty good. I wasn't expecting to hit the ball in the river, which was pretty cool, but it was great to come through and give us a chance to win.''

"You go with whatever the team calls for, especially if things aren't going well as a starter" — Tim Lincecum, who was available in the bullpen Sunday for the Giants.
Bruce Bochy says Lincecum is staying in the starting rotation, but was available for relief since the Giants bullpen was drained in a doubleheader Saturday and the team started a reliever (Chad Gaudin) on Sunday.
