No way, he could make the top ten sure, but not #1. I based this on what I percieve to be the greatness of the individuals mind rather than the effects/benefits of their work. So, although Galileo's work probably influences our ideas about the universe more than da Vinci, I believe da Vinci was the greatest mind of all time because he was doing and thinking about things that were light years ahead of his time, coupled with the fact that he was a genius in just about every single field imaginable.

Alright, but people like Newton and Einstein both said that they "stood on the shoulders of giants", like Galileo. Besides, Newton and Einstein were synthesizers. They took a bunch of ideas people had at the time, and formulated them. It wasn't stealing, but it wasn't totally original. Whereas Galileo went against everything that was taught at the time. Everything he discovered was his alone, and was met with extreme opposition, yet he kept going.
