I've nailed down a good deal on a slightly used, 2008 subaru forester near me and I'm looking to buy it as a first car using the family's retired outback as a trade-in. Is it a good bet? It does have AWD and side airbags, so that can't hurt.

The 2008 Subaru Forester is a great choice. It's a safe, reliable choice. The Subaru Forester is quiet while cruising and is easy to drive, but it's ride comfort isn't at its best over hard surfaces. Overall I would recommend buying it.

I would think it would be a great first car, it has lots of power, yet has good mpg and has low insurance because it has four doors. It also has AWD which also helps if you live where it snows. I wish i could have a Forester for my first car, I think you should get it.

Great choice. All wheel drive, good mpg, safe, and not too fast. Should be cheap on insurance and license, too. Car and Driver magazine likes it and they only like sports cars.
