The San Antonio Spurs are the first team to 40 wins after they defeated the Houston Rockets on Saturday night by a final score of 108-95. The game between the two Texan teams was close throughout before the Spurs went on a run in the fourth quarter. Now 40-7, the Spurs hold a four and a half game lead over the Boston Celtcis for best record in the NBA.

All five starters for the Spurs scored in double-digits, led by Manu Ginobili’s 22 points. DeJuan Blair, the second year player out of Pitt, finished with 14 points, 12 rebounds, three assists and three blocked shots.

Despite the impressive record, Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich isn’t ready to rest.

Said Popovich: “You keep competing, executing and trying to improve. It doesn’t matter if you have the best record or the worst record.”

The Spurs now embark on their Rodeo Road Trip, which will keep them on the road for their next nine contests. As for the Rockets, they are 22-27 and fighting to grab the final spot in the Western Conference playoffs.
