Rock Band from PS2 to PS3?

Say you bought the Bundle PS2 Rock Band. Are the instruments playable on the PS3

Since the PS2 instruments connect via a USB cable, it's definitely worth a try. Theoretically it's possible! However, I don't think using the PS2 instruments with the PS3 game disc will work. You would need a backwards-compatible PS3.
