Went to install my SHS suspension kit on my 08' VW R32, and I couldn't get this link loose. Once I got it "loose" to where it was just spinning, making no progress to come out or go back in, I then couldn't get it tightened back up. Drove it around the block and I heard a "clinking" noise, obviously from the link not being secured?

Here is a picture of what I mean. You can see the silver link hanging down.

This is on a Jetta, but same deal pretty much.
I didn't see anything in back to hold onto to prevent it from spinning to allow removal/tightening.
Any tips on removing this bugger would be appreciated.

When you're talking about "coming out or going back in," are you referring to getting the nut off of the link? You are right that there is nothing on the back to hold onto to keep it from spinning, but if you look closely at the threaded end you'll notice that there is a provision for a hex key to keep the ball joint from rotating. You shouldn't need to use a pickle fork to separate the ball joints from the suspension components, it's really just the nuts holding them on there.
