Locker room celebration songs are one of hockey's most underappreciated traditions. The team wins, files into the room, somebody plugs their iPod into the speakers and cranks up the volume. And there was much joy.

The Minnesota Wild were using "The Dog Days are Over" by Florence + the Machine last season, thanks to DJ Kyle Brodziak. Thanks to HBO, we know that the Washington Capitals were pumping fists to "Beat Dat Beat Up" by DJ Pauly D.

The Nashville Predators play in the cradle of honky tonk. Yet their locker room celebration song is … Lionel Richie's "All Night Long"?

From Josh Cooper at The Tennessean:

The origins of the decision to play the song are murky at best. Jerred Smithson's iPod is used for locker room music. But Smithson said he takes suggestions from players for songs, and mentioned goaltender Pekka Rinne asked Smithson to purchase it. Rinne denied these rumors.

"It was kind of a fun song and it got everyone in a good mood and laughing," Smithson said. "We've kind of stuck with it a little bit."

Others on the team said enforcer Brian McGrattan found the song on Smithson's iPod and decided it would be the team's tune. McGrattan would neither confirm nor deny these rumors to The Tennessean but said Smithson had most to do with the song being played in the locker room.

Cooper notes that Richie is supposed to be at the CMA Awards with Mrs. Mike Fisher this week. We smell a duet. (Via Dmitry: "After that duet, Mr. Fisher may be singing 'Before She Cheats.'" Such is the power of Lionel Richie.)

This is wonderful. There's really only place this can go: A Belfast Giants-like music video in which the Predators recreate this.

Or, perhaps even better: a certain all-star defenseman doing a solo performance of "Shea You, Shea Me."
