I'm doing some research on the alternative/punk/grunge movement of the past 15 - 20 years. I'm looking for a band or singer that could be considered the "poster boy" of the genre. So I'm asking you to tell me ONE OR MORE bands that fit my criteria below.
1 - Must have broken through to the "Big Time" anytime after 1989.
2 - Although they are alternative/punk/grunge in genre, they must also transcend into mainstream pop music.
3 - They must have multiple hits. Not necessarily all #1, but several hits that have been very high on billboard charts.
4 - Band should still be together, or band members still alive (example: Nirvana does not qualify due to Cobain's death)
5 - they represent what the alternative/punk/grunge movement is about.
Please tell me the band name, and why you think they are qualified. If more than one come to mind please put all in. And feel free to thumbs up or down other people's choices if you think those are good choices or not.
