The AP announced this morning that Coca-Cola and Pepsi are both on the hunt for a magical unicorn of food science: a healthier soda. One with no weird after taste, no calories, and, even more impossibly, no artificial sweeteners. And while I'm pretty sure that exists in some iteration (club soda with a dash of homemade fruit juice?), the fact is that what they're racing to discover--a bottled soda drink that can help them get off the health-conscious Naughty List, while keeping them in the pocket of consumers--probably isn't going to be the miracle drink they're hoping for.
