On January 18, 2010, the British Medical Association (BMA) urged the government to reconsider their plans to make changes to the NHS Pension Scheme after the BMA received an overwhelming call from doctors to reject the proposed changes, with a willingness to take some form of industrial action. After taking into account results of a major survey of 130,000 medical students and doctors, the decision was made at a meeting of BMA Council, the association's governing body.
