I went to go watch the DVD, "The Hunger Games," which is a relatively new DVD. When inserted, the DVD player already sounded louder than usual. I let the previews play through, then I got to the title screen. The "Play Movie" button was highlighted, so I pressed the play button on the device. The entire player shut down, and I never got to watch my movie. I repeated this many times, but had the same results. Today, I watched a "Blue Planet" DVD and It worked perfectly well. I know it's not the DVD that doesn't work because I've played it on my laptop with no problem. Do you know why this only happens with this DVD? Please Help.
My DVD player model is Philips DVDR600VR DVD and VCR combo.

That model gets bad reviews on Amazon. If I had to guess the problem I would say that its programming isn't 100% correct so it can't handle some DVDs. That's not something you can fix. Get a new DVD player, they're cheap.

Maybe you got a DVD meant for another region. You can tell by looking at the back case. Towards the bottom there is a small symbol of a globe with a number over it. Number 1 is North America and number 2 is Europe and so on. That's one possibility. Did you try playing that same DVD on another DVD player?
