I just bought this car about 6 months ago and now the car seems to be falling apart. First off, there is a big exhaust leak coming from the front flex pipe. Now my check engine light is on and when I had it scanned by who I think may be a hack mechanic, it came back with multiple codes. I do not remember the code numbers, but i know the first one had to do with the secondary air intake, the next one said slow moving O2 sensor or something like that. Also a code for a brake booster as well as a misfire from one of the cylinders. The mechanic says its going to need a new air pump, O2 sensor, probably a tune up and didnt even get into the brake booster. It sounds to me like a lot of these problems could be inter-related. Could this have been caused from the exhaust leak? and if you are familiar with repairing VW's, does the mechanic I used sound correct or is this problem somewhat common and easier to fix than I was quoted?
