The Cleveland Indians have fired Manny Acta, their manager for the past three seasons. Earlier this season, the Indians were one of the surprise teams in the American League. However, they’ve stumbled to the finish line and it ended up costing Acta his job.

The main culprit of their struggles was a horrendous month of August. During that month, Cleveland went 5-24 — their worst record in any month in the history of the franchise. For a franchise that dates back more than 110 years, that’s quite an accomplishment.

Acta admitted that August was his undoing: “That month just crushed our hopes.”

Currently, the Indians are 65-91 — which is tied for the worst record in the AL. Going into August, they were 50-52 and just five games behind in their division.
