Lord Brown of Eaton-under-Heywood, who has died aged 86, was one of the most distinguished jurists of his generation, his career culminating as a Lord of Appeal in Ordinary (Law Lord) from 2004 until 2009, and then Justice of the Supreme Court from its inception in 2009 until 2012.
