Winnipeg Jets fans are known as one of the more creative groups in the NHL. Since the Jets franchise moved from Atlanta to Winnipeg, the fans have come up with many different ways to taunt their favorite team’s opponent.*
On Thursday they did so by taking a large cutout of Columbus Blue Jackets coach John Tortorella and putting it behind him.*
In the above video you can see Tortorella turn – perhaps catching a glance of the cutout.
The Jets fans’ mocking ways have been well documented. This isn’t the first time they’ve gone after Tortorella in a game. They chanted his name in a 2013 contest, which led to him being questioned about it afterwards. According to Illegal Curve, another “Tortorella” chant broke out during Thursday’s game. They also used the same type of cutout for when the Vancouver Canucks came to town in 2014 while Tortorella was suspended. They also used it later in the season.

Jets fans have also*chanted “silver medal” at 2010 Team USA goaltender Ryan Miller when he played at MTS Centre in 2012. They yelled “Crosby’s better” at Washington Capitals forward Alexander Ovechkin. They also screamed “who’s your captain?” at the San Jose Sharks last year, after the team stripped Joe Thornton of his ‘C’ in the offseason.
Eye on Hockey showed how the area behind the visitor’s bench can be a strange spot at MTS Centre.
As for the game itself, the Jets beat the Blue Jackets 6-4. Winnipeg forward Mathieu Perreault scored one goal and added three assists and goaltender Connor Hellebuyck moved to 4-0-0.*
