Is he losing interest?

I've been talking to this guy for a couple months, we still aren't officially dating, but we are a "thing". Anyways, we hung out over the weekend, and everything was fine, he told me he liked me a lot and I made him happy. But now this week when we've been texting, I feel like he's not putting any effort into the conversation and that I'm kind of bothering him by texting him. Also, usually when we text he'd tell me I looked nice today and he'd call me babe or some other pet name and he hasn't been doing that recently. But when we're in class, he'll sit next to me and flirt and stuff.
So I just don't know if he's losing interest or maybe he just doesn't have much to say this week? Should I text him first or let him text me?
