Is Christianity selfish?

I've been thinking about this a lot lately, and I have to wonder: is Christianity selfish?

I mean, the majority of Christians (including myself) are only obeying the commandments, and going to church/mass regularly because they believe it will guarantee them a place in Heaven, or wherever you go when you die. A lot of them only turn to God truly in time of need, I know of no one who actually puts power into their prayer normally, they just seem to drone it out.

Of course, there are some who adore the religion and do good deeds simply for the happiness of others, but it seems to me most people want something out of it. Like eternal life. This seems so...selfish to me.

I myself am Christian, though I can't say I'm a very devoted one.
