I just went to Barbados in December. I stayed at the Crane which is a few miles from Bridgetown. I took a cab which is about $40 US round trip from The Crane to Bridgetown and he waited. They have a nice fish fry on Fridays in Oistins, which is between The Crane and Bridgetown. Caribbean Sea is so calm is looks like Miami or any beach on tv. The Crane is on the Atlantic side and the waves almost took me away. Nothing to break the waves and not nice swimming water. I loved it and I am going back in December.
