In iPhone can we increase the pixels in camera only by upgrading the camera sofware?

I know that pixels are smallest unit in camera. It contains 3 basic colors like Red, Blue and Green. iPhone is having Already 2mega pixel camera. But can we increase thi number of pixels by upgrading the camera software?
