...band/dvd/peoples name in? I was wondering if I could include bands and stuff in my book e.g

"So we've got plenty of dvds, Twilight, Harry Potter, Lord Of The RIngs,"

or

"Yeah Paramores quite an awesome band,"

Of course, in that sort of context. I namedrop brands quite a lot in my writing actually - alcohol is my main one; I wrote a piece where I talked about a load of British people on holiday all glugging down there Stellas. If it's your CHARACTER or narrative, they can say what they want if it's what they think.

xx

Yeah, you can. :p
Of course, if it's just a fad, in a few years people reading your book will go "What?" Don't use names like that too much. xD

Yes, You are free to use common popular things.By the way it is your novel and you are writing what you think correct.Even you are allowed to be critical if it is justifiable. Only thing you can not do is use individual personal names and defame them using untruth as they can sue you for damages.
