...introduce them to your family? Will that be cause for suspicion? Also does immigration really follow you or is that just in some cases?
I am the u.s.a citizen and the person that I want to marry is here legally on a tourist visa
If you are married, without a visa to do so, and they are here illegally - it can pose huge problems. Are they an LPR (Lawful perm. res.)? There are many factors that can play into it - immigration follows you forever - you will not just "become" a citizen without going through the correct channels.
You will need overwhelming evidence that your marriage is "bona fide" to prove to the immigration officer at your interview. This evidence includes joint bank accounts, joint lease, joint tax returns,
joint utility bills, phone call records, tons of pix of your wedding or of the two of you just hanging out e.t.c. You basically want to show beyond a reasonable doubt that you both entered into this marriage for love, and not for an immigration benefit. Marriage fraud is a serious crime, up to 5 years in jail and a $250,000 dollar fine. Also, you are required to provide an affidavit of support for your spouse and and are on the hook for 10 years were they to become a public charge.
