1. Don't be convinced to purchase a telescopic rod. Cheap telescopic rods are usually poorly made and have design flaws- example- cheap telescopic rods only telescope once or twice before they get stuck, making the whole concept of a telescoping rod redundant. If your on a budget you'll be tempted to get a tele- don't.
Buy a 2-3 piece rod. Spinning outfit being easiest to cast.
Look for a "travel rod" or a 2 piece rod at Cabelas or Bass Pro Shops.
