I can't update my iPhone 4.3.3?

Every time I try to download instagram and snapchat on my iPhone it tells me I need iOS 5.

So I guess I need to update my phone?

When I try updating my iPhone on itunes and it keeps saying "make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later."

I have completely updated my iTunes and I have network connection on both my mac and my iPhone.

Make sure your date and time is correct (set automatically). I know in the past when I was cheating for games by resetting the time I couldn't update my ipod
