Humming noise coming from my engine?

i have a 97 ford explorer and last week i hit a HUGE puddle doing about 60 mph and now it is making a weird noise. I think it may be the timing belt. Does anybody have other ideas or is it the timing belt? The sound is comming from the front of the engine, it is humming type noise and it seems to get louder the more i drive it.

Might have gotten water up into the alternator. Or just a bad serpentine belt. Remove belt and check all pulleys for free motion, no binding. Might also be the fan rubbing the shroud.
