I just got a Philips 1080p Upconverting DVD Player (DVP3680) and i put a movie on a USB that is in AVI. and then i plugged it into the dvd... it didn't work and i found out that it doesn't play avi.

According to future shop- Video Codecs Supported: MPEG1; MPEG2; DivX 3.11; DivX 4.x; DivX 5.x; DivX 6.0; DivX Ultra

Which is the best format to convert to that will give the best quality of video and audio and can you please send me the link of this FREE converter thanks.

Extra details- i have a 1gb usb and i successfully put a 380mb avi. movie on it (45mins) so will it take up more space if i convert it?

the answer is this

you havnt said where the AVI comes from, ie what created it.
you also havnt given its dimensions.

Unfortunately AVI files have been misused.
they are now Overloaded with different content

DivX can already play most AVI content so it doesnt want to convert it.

All DVD players are MPEG by default. some have DivX capabilities.

most modern devices that issue out AVI's do in fact produce MP4.
divx 3.11 is capable of playing MP4 after installing a codec for it, so
maybe you need something newer DivX 4 might undestand it.

either way to preserve quality, i would keep it as MP4.
