How many pictures can a 4GB memory car hold for a 12.1 megapixel camera?

What camera? A point and shoot at 12mp will have a higher default compression than a DSLR at 12mp.

Using a point and shoot, you will get a minimum of 1,000 shots on a 4gb card. With a DSLR, you may only get 800 at Fine JPEG setting.

You should never use your camera at a reduced resolution, the pics will look like crap and just be a waste of time and effort. Get everything your camera is capable of capturing! Memory cards are cheap, a 4gb can easily be found for less than $20. You should have a couple of them anyway.

On the highest setting of 12.1 megapixels I would say about 800-1000 Pictures.

Depends on the settings.
If you leave it at max (12mp) then the memory will fill quickly (and they will take a long time to download). Set it to snapshot (3-4mp) and you will have tons of space

Asume that each pic is 300 KB
1 GB = 1,048,576 KB

So 1,048,576/300 (1 GB) = 3495.2533333333336 Pictures (x4)
