How do you unlock the Sony Ericsson J20i to be able to use any sim?

I have this phone and I have been using the same sim card for about 6 months..Now when I try to change the sim,it doesnt turn on..it only works with the old sim.How do I unlock it? I've googled and found that I need to buy a code.Honestly I'm looking for a cheaper way.Appreciate your help.
