how do you know when a guy is joking around with a girl when he likes her

or is just being friendly? When a guy is joking around with a girl how do you know if he's just being friendly, or if it's because he likes her? I joke around with everyone. I have a witty personality and I can be very sarcastic, so for me just because I'm joking around with someone doesn't mean I like them.
These past two days at work this guy and I who work together have been joking around over this one stupid thing. I'm not going to go into the whole story, but today I told his manager as a joke he should go yell at him about it. & he did, of course we were all joking and his manager knew that too. Later when I saw this guy he was telling me how we wont be talking any more and how he has enough friends and doesn't need another friend. We were arguing but of course just kidding about the whole thing. . .I'm still young, he already went through college and what not so I'm thinking he's just joking in a friendly way. . . but I don't know, I'm just curious.
