...time, not the present? The generation that could have seen the Biblical prophecies come to pass were none other than Jesus' generation. The 40 year period between 30-70AD was that time period all prophets referred to regarding the end of the age, the destruction of the old heavens & earth (Old Covenant) etc.
Finally people are studying the Bible and asking the right questions, and seeing how our traditions are not necessarily true when it comes to eschatology. Jesus and New Testament writers declared the end of the age to be imminent in the first century... read Matt 10:23, John 21:22 and Matt 24:34 for a few examples. Then look at Jesus' statements in Revelation 22:6, 12, 20... and think of how the very first people to read that letter understood that! (the 7 churches in Asia).
